Abiding in the Light

This week's passage: 1 John 2:1-27

We started a new series this Sunday. First John. A letter about assurance. Real assurance. The kind that comes not from a feeling but from fruit.

We walked through chapter 2 together. Four signs of abiding in Christ. Four ways the life of God shows up in ordinary, everyday faith.

First, our walk. Obedience doesn’t earn salvation. It proves we know him. Jesus is our advocate when we stumble, but our conduct reveals the relationship. Claims without conduct are empty.

Second, our love. Love for one another isn’t optional. It’s the proving ground. Christ raised the bar. Not love as you love yourself. Love as he loves you. Sacrificially. Unconditionally.

Third, our desires. The world’s system is passing away. The flesh desires. The eyes crave. Pride tempts. But the one who does the will of God abides forever. It’s a heart check.

Fourth, our endurance. Some left the flock. They were never truly of it. The Spirit’s anointing teaches, protects, and keeps us from deception. Endurance proves the real thing.

Not perfection. Direction. That’s the thread through all of it.

Something to sit with this week:

Which of these four signs feels most challenging in your life right now? Where is God inviting you to grow?
