This week's passages: Select Passages
We walked through Colossians 4:2-6 this Sunday, looking at what it takes to leave a legacy that lasts. Paul gives us three steps.
First, pray. Constantly, watchfully, thankfully. Devote yourself to prayer. Be alert to the spiritual battle around you. Fill your prayers with gratitude. Ask the people in your life how you can pray for them, and then do it.
Second, speak. Graciously, clearly, persuasively. The Greek word for gracious is charis. Sweetness, kindness, favor. Paul opened every letter with “grace to you.” Jesus was known for his gracious words. When we share God’s word, make it clear. Season it with salt. Make people thirsty for more.
Third, walk. Wisely, hospitably, in the right moment. Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, especially toward outsiders. People outside the faith are watching. How we treat them shapes how they feel about the gospel. And make the best use of the time. Do not miss the moment God opens a door.
Life is a vapor. But a legacy built on prayer, gracious speech, and a wise walk can outlast a lifetime.
