The Gifts Among Us: Part 2

This week's passages: Select Passages

We continued The Gifts Among Us this Sunday, spending the whole time in 1 Corinthians 12.

Paul’s picture is simple but powerful. The church is a body. Not an audience. Not a stage with spectators. A living body where every member matters.

We walked through four movements. First, the body metaphor itself. One body, many members, each one placed by God. Less a concert and more a choir.

Second, insecurity. The foot that says “I don’t belong because I’m not a hand.” Paul’s answer: God arranged every member as he chose. Feeling unnecessary does not make it true.

Third, pride. The eye that says “I don’t need you.” Paul flips it. The parts that seem weaker are actually indispensable. The hidden, quiet, behind-the-scenes members are the ones the body cannot do without.

Fourth, participation. Not everyone has the same gift. But no one is unnecessary and no one is self-sufficient. The mission requires every part doing what it was made to do.

We spent time asking each other honest questions. What part of the body might God have placed you as? Who do you need? Who might need you?

Something to sit with this week:

No one is unnecessary. No one is self-sufficient. Where does that truth land for you right now?
