Encouraged by What's Ahead — Select Passages
Joshua: The Backstory
October 12, 2025

This week's passages: Select Passages
We started a new series this Sunday. Joshua: Encouraged by What’s Ahead. Before diving into the book itself, we walked through Joshua’s backstory from Exodus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The quiet years before the spotlight.
Four lessons shaped his character. Strength comes from God’s presence. Joshua fought in the valley while Moses prayed on the hill, and later he lingered near the tent of meeting when everyone else went back to camp. Public courage formed in private communion.
Encouragement comes from God’s people. When Eldad and Medad prophesied in the camp, Moses didn’t shut them down. He longed for the day all God’s people would carry words of comfort wherever they go.
Faith comes from God’s promises. Joshua and Caleb trusted God’s word when ten other spies spread fear. Then Joshua waited forty years, proving that faith anchored in God’s love outlasts every setback.
Endurance comes from God’s plan. Moses passed the mantle to Joshua publicly. Endurance isn’t just holding on. It’s passing on.
Something to sit with this week:
Who is God calling you to mentor, equip, and release?
